Serena - the Champion

Posted by Christina on January 27th, 2010

Once again, Serena turned out to be too big of a challenge for Vika. Serena defeated Vika in one of the best matches of the tournment, 46 76 62. Vika started strong and was out-playing the world number 1 to go up a set and 4-0, before Serena found an extra gear and started hitting winners from everywhere.

The Coach Makes The Difference?

Posted by Christina on January 25th, 2010

Vika reached the QF of a Grand Slam for the 3rd time in her career by beating Zvonareva for the first time in her career - even ending the match with a bagel. In all of their encounters Antonio Van Grichen has been on the losing end while Sam Sumyk has been coaching the winner. In the quarter-final Vika will take on Serena Williams who defeated Vika the last time they faced each other in a Grand Slam quarter-final.

Another Routine Win

Posted by Christina on January 23rd, 2010

Vika didn't waste much time in her 62 60 win in the 3rd round of the Australian Open. Garbin didn't have any chance against a focused Azarenka who made 21 winners to Garbin's 6 and only 14 unforced errors to Garbin's 21. Next round will be more of a test as Zvonareva will be the opponent.

Posted by Christina on January 21st, 2010

Vika didn't play as dominating as she could as she needed almost an hour to close the first set 64. However, she stepped it up and served a bagel for the second time in this tournament to beat Voegele and advance to the 3rd round.
